The therapy approach for stuttering depends on the age of the child. For young children, the focus is on consultation and guidance for parents. The aim is to identify the factors that reinforce or maintain stuttering and, if possible, eliminate them in the child's environment. Parents are also given support with the child's language development. Older children receive instructions on how to overcome speech impediments, e.g. by changing their breathing technique and practicing a soft voice. At the same time, the child's self-confidence is strengthened so that it can cope better with its stuttering.
The therapy approach for poluttering focuses on building up good self-awareness in order to develop an understanding of the disorder. This should enable the patient to improve faulty structures. In addition, the patient should be able to speak more clearly and fluently through breathing exercises, exercises on speech melody, speech tempo and articulation.
