The aim of therapy for dysarthria is generally to improve the patient's intelligibility and ability to communicate. The focus of therapy is determined by the type and extent of the dysfunctional circuits following the diagnosis.

Therapy areas are:

  • Posture
  • breathing
  • vocalization
  • oral motor skills
  • articulation

The initial aim is always to restore the impaired functions as well as possible and thus achieve speech that is as normal as possible. For very severely affected patients, however, the focus can also be on learning alternative communication strategies.
